Capital One Donates $151,000 to Support the American Red Cross
FALLS CHURCH, Va., May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Capital One Services, Inc., announced today a $151,000 donation to the American Red Cross to support its relief efforts around the world. Capital One designated $101,000 to the International Response Fund aiding refugees from Kosovo and $50,000 to the Tornado Relief Fund aiding victims of the tornadoes that swept through Oklahoma and Texas. "The donation to the Red Cross was driven by our 12,000 associates. Many of them approached us and wanted Capital One to help," said Capital One President and Chief Operating Officer Nigel Morris. "We have watched what was happening in the world with much dismay, and thanks to our success we are in a position where we are able to offer assistance. We hope our contribution goes a long way in helping those in need." The funds designated for the International Response Fund will be used to purchase two trucks that will be used to transport supplies for the Kosovar refugees and to send a Red Cross volunteer to the region for three months. Funds designated to aid the tornado victims will be used to help recovery efforts for the people who were so hard hit by the storms. "We are grateful to Capital One for this generous contribution," said American Red Cross Vice President for International Services Jose Aponte. "Donations like this enable the Red Cross to be there for people who need our help here in the United States and half-way around the world. Thanks to neighbors like Capital One, the Red Cross is reaching people with the care, comfort and resources they need."
