Michael Shepherd was appointed to the Capital One Board of Directors effective May 18, 2025 in connection with Capital One’s acquisition of Discover. Mr. Shepherd served as the interim Chief Executive Officer and President of Discover from April 2024 until Capital One’s acquisition of Discover. He has also served as a member of the board of directors of Discover from August 2023 until Capital One’s acquisition of Discover. Before joining Discover, Mr. Shepherd was Chairman and CEO of BancWest Corporation and a Director and the Chair of BNP Paribas, USA. Prior to BancWest, he was General Counsel of The Bank of New York Company, Inc. and Shawmut National Corporation. He served in government as Senior Deputy Comptroller of the Currency, Associate Counsel to the President of the United States and Deputy Assistant Attorney General. Mr. Shepherd is a member of the Dean’s Council at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., the Business Executive Council of the University of California, the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago, and the Council on Foreign Relations. He previously served as a Member and President of the Federal Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Board, as a Member of the FDIC Advisory Committee on Economic Inclusion, as a Director of the Presidio Trust, and as a Director of The Clearing House.
